A new constitutive model for the phase transformations in mono-crystalline silicon

چکیده

This paper presents a constitutive modelling technique for the multi-phase transformations in mono-crystalline silicon under complex loading. The development is based on the physical mechanisms observed experimentally and the incremental theory of plasticity. The stress–strain relationship is derived using closed loading/unloading surfaces, associated flow rule and isotropic hardening rule, to reflect the pressure-sensitive behaviour of the material with volumetric plastic strains. With the aid of the finite element method, the model is successfully applied to predict the elastic– plastic response of silicon subjected to hydrostatic pressure and nano-indentation, including the phenomena of pop-in and pop-out. 2004 Elsevier Ltd.
